Glass used forUV Bonding MUST have bright polished edges to achieve the desired results when bonding and is more often than not processed on a CNC machine to maintain accuracy. UV bonding is by far the strongest and neatest way of constructing glass furniture, glass showcases and can be applied in many other applications. Photo on the left depicts an office sliding door weighing at 150KG supported by two UV Bonded Stainless Steel Brackets. In today's fast and ever changing world of design perfection, it would be unthinkable not to apply the UV bonding technique in ones designs or applications. UV Bonding is a process whereby, typically two pieces of glass are glued together using a UV curing adhesive, which is cured by either a UV light or UV activator. A UV Activator is used to cure the glue where the use of a UV Light is not possible. Professionally processed glass for the UV Bonding application! Typical applications where one would use the UV bonding technique would have to have one of the following material combinations, and more importantly where bonding is to be successful, one of the surfaces to be bonded must be that of GLASS or Bonding won't work! Perspex or Plexi-Glass is not a material that can be UV Bonded to glass as the chemical properties cancel out the developed UV Bonding glue formula. Thickness of glass to be bonded is generally not an issue, depending on the application. In Carcass construction it is imperative that the carcass is designed in such a manner as to keep a closed construction in mind to maintain overall strength & durability of the glass display. i.e Surfaces to be UV Bonded should be as smooth as possible and tightly pushed or clamped against one another. Should a white stain appear between two surfaces of UV Bonded components (after curing), then this would indicate that the joint has taken strain and should be re-done. Alternatively the UV Glue has not had adequate curing time before being moved or handled. If tests are conducted on the strengths of a join then one component should break glass out of the glass side and not on the actual UV Bonding glue itself.
